FAQs

  • What information do I need to provide to 123Dview for a 3D rendering to be created?
Generally, the more specific the information we receive, the better the initial product. Although we can work from as little as a napkin sketch, we prefer to receive as much as possible of the following information:
CAD files, including: camera angles, site plans, elevations, floor plans, reflective ceiling plans, floor finish plan, millwork plans, furniture layout plan, and landscaping plan
Specifications for: furniture, fixtures, floor coverings, and wall coverings
Specifications can include: digital photos of all FF&E, links to manufacturer’s Website, brand names and model numbers, scans of all fabrics, wall coverings, and floor coverings

  • How do I deliver my files and samples to 123Dview?
The fastest and easiest way to send us your files is to upload them to our FTP server. 123Dview provides you with a Web link that allows you to easily upload all of your project files to a secure folder just for your project. Upon receipt, 123Dview will email you a confirmation of all files.

  • How long does it take to have a rendering completed?
We estimate that a typical rendering takes between 40 and 60 man-hours to complete. When you add in the time it takes for you to review the progress renderings and send back your comments, one rendering can take 7 to 10 business days. We have the ability to complete rush jobs in less time by working double shifts and weekends, though there is an overtime charge for weekend service. You will generally receive initial progress renderings showing camera angle and most structural elements within 2 to 3 days after the start of a project, with progress renderings delivered every day or two after that.

  • How can I comment on progress renderings?
We ask that you mark up the renderings by hand or use digital marking tools. In addition, we suggest that you also provide a written description of each comment marked; 123Dview provides a sample comments form for you to follow. We can also schedule interactive calls via GoToMeetings.com to review comments together via computer screen.

  • How many changes to the rendering are included in the fee?
You can request as many changes as you want. 123Dview is not satisfied until you are. The only caveat is that if your plans or specifications change after we have modeled per the prior plan or specifications, there may be a small additional charge to make the modifications. Any changes requested after the final high-resolution image is delivered will be billed at a rate of just $20 per hour.

  • In what type of file format will my progress renderings and final rendering be delivered?
Progress renderings are emailed as a low-resolution JPG files (typically less than 1MB). Final renderings are uploaded to our secure FTP server as high-resolution JPG files (typically 5-10MB). Other file formats are available upon request.

  • What types of digital 3D renderings can 123Dview create?
In addition to photorealistic still renderings, 123Dview can make 3D interactive renderings and fly-through animations. For our clients who do not want a photorealistic look, we can make digital renderings that have a watercolor effect. Some of our clients prefer Sketch-Up renderings, which we can prepare as well.

  • What software does 123Dview use to make renderings?
All of our photorealistic renderings are prepared using 3ds Max. Renderings are sometimes modified using Photoshop. For clients who want the option of seeing detailed dimensions, we can prepare renderings using SolidWorks; however, SolidWorks does not result in photorealism.

  • What additional services does 123Dview perform other than renderings?
In addition to our 3D rendering work, our architectural team prepares paper to CAD conversion. 123Dview also has a team of engineers who can perform reverse engineering, assembly detailing, FEA analysis, parametric solid modeling, and engineering documentation. Finally, we have a team of Web designers and graphic artists who can create logos, Web sites, and marketing materials.

  • How much does 123Dview charge for a rendering?
123Dview charges approximately $20 per hour, and we offer substantial volume discounts. We quote a flat fee for most rendering projects so that you don’t have to worry about unexpected expenses and cost overruns. Second and third views of the same room or building are substantially discounted by 25% to 35%. In addition, if you want to see the same space in a variety of color schemes, we can prepare alternate schemes at a fraction of the cost to prepare the first design.

  • What is 123Dview requested payment procedure?
Prior to starting work on a project, 123Dview will provide you with a firm quote and require that a 50% deposit be paid. The final 50% is due upon completion of the second complete draft and prior to the delivery of the high-resolution file of the rendering. Payments can be made online by credit card, PayPal, or wire transfer.
